Poem: Freedom by Bello Haneefah

2

Freedom - Birds flying free

What is the essence of life without air?
In this dismal state of despair
My heart yearns for the ecstasy
That comes with a whoosh of sparkling air
That nourishes soul, mind and body.

What is the essence of life without air?
Not the air that reeks of the blood and sweat
O f my brethren, my kindred
Whose hearts have been eaten
By the ogres who have entrapped us
In a briar of no escape.

What is the essence of life without air?
Ask and it shall be given unto you.
We have asked for the air of freedom;
We weep and wait with high hopes
For the day we shall breathe in the air,
The air of freedom.
