Our Playing Ground by Gbenga Akinborewa

Street Soccer

Every evening, children

from the street gather on this ground

to play our monkey post soccer

Our clothes tattered, shattered as we sing the song of victory home

The losers won't talk cos they have nothing to say

One day this pot bellied man came with his men.

He drove us away from our playing ground

Why did he do this?

My heart filled with sadness

I came back later to see our playing ground

What I saw is this big filling station

the problem of my nation.
