This October is going to be exciting as Lagos hosts the first international poetry festival in West Africa. The Lagos International Poetry Festival themed “Borderless Words” will delve into the role of poetry in bridging racial, language and cultural divide. The five day festival is goingto feature masterclasses, exhibitions, panel discussions and performances.
Some of the literary heavy weights expected at the festival are Warsan Shire (London’s first young Poet Laureate), Safia Elhillo (Joint winner of the Brunel University African Poetry Prize 2015), Lebo Mashile, Lola Shoneyin (Author, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives), Bassey Ikpi, Dami Ajayi, Jumoke Verissimo, Sage Hassan and many others. Also, Professor J.P. Clark will be giving a special keynote at the University of Lagos.
