2019 Crater Literary Festival Enugu – Press Release

Crater Library & Publisher, in collaboration with AfricaWeek UK, announces its third edition of Crater Literary Festival which will take place at the main hall of University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus on the 13th and 14th of December 2019. The festival will feature a host of renowned authors and showcase the best of international and local writings.

Among the authors lined up to take part are international best-sellers Dillibe Onyeama, Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani, Ositadimma Amakaeze, Ifeoma Onwugbufor and Nnamdi Oguike. The festival will also have in attendance literary and cultural figures in Nigeria’s south east: Ken Ike Okere aka the Slam master, Enugu Literary Society, and others.

The theme this year is ‘Literary Renaissance in Africa.’

Discussions will educate, explore, and enlighten on the progress of literary development in shaping culture and society in Africa.

The activities and schedule for the festival include:          

•   Thursday 12th December: Creative writing workshop at Techx Innovation Hub, Enugu.

•    Friday 13th and Saturday 14th December: Engaging panel discussions, Book reading sessions, Poetry, Book sales, Performances, Literary competitions, and Stage Plays at the Main hall of the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus.

In the month of October, the festival also administered four literary competitions across Nigeria.

  • Dr. Emmanuel C. Adukwu Prize for Literature – ₦50,000 Prize
  • Mrs. Paula Chinwe Okafor Prize for Creative Non-Fiction – ₦200,000 Prize
  • CraterLitFest/iSERVE2050 Book pitch competition – ₦100,000 Research Grant
  • Loretta Ogboro-Okor Prize for Short Story Fiction – ₦50,000 Prize 

The winners shall be notified and awarded at the festival on 14th of December.
