Buying books in Nigeria is one of the numerous problems of any Nigerian who loves to read and collect good books. For years, we’ve been stuck with really old bookshops that do not stock popular fiction or even African fiction.

But recently, there has been a steady uprising of new online bookstores that have a lot of books that you’ll actually want to read that aren’t Nora Roberts, Dan Brown or Nicholas Sparks.

In this post, I’ll be showing 8 places where you can buy good books online in Nigeria, both mint new and in gently used conditions.

Rovingheights books

1. Roving Heights.

At Roving Heights, you’d find bestsellers, American fiction and African literature in new, pristine condition. If you’re looking for a book that has just been released, you’ll most probably find it here or be able to pre-order it.

Amab books

2. Amab Books

Amab is a bookstore located in Minna, which has a big online front. If you want the complete Harry Potter series, Percy Jackson collection or even the Game of Thrones series, you’ll find them here. They also stock classics ranging from Kafka to Freud. You’ll also find great poetry here.

If you’re a fan of Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Sophie Kinsella or Jodi Picoult, Amab Books is where you should be spending your money. The Book Dealer is a little different from the stores mentioned above because it’s more of a powerful book-finding tool than a regular bookstore.

Want a book that you can’t find anywhere else? Need a Cyprian Ekwensi, Amos Tutuola or even Buchi Emecheta that you can’t just seem to get? The Book Dealer’s got you. All you have to do is give them a list of the titles you want and just chill, they’ll find it and deliver it to you.

4. Twang Africa

Twang is a relatively new online bookstore that stocks a huge variety of books. They have titles ranging from foreign literature  to inspiration, self help, down to African literature, Twang Africa has it all.

If you want to collect a lot of books about healthy living, business, religion or even TED Talks, this is where you should go to. They also stock books for kids and lovers of crafts as well.

5. Havilah Books

Havilah Books has been in business for over 20 years and have a website where book lovers can make purchases. Havilah Books is quoted to have handled various book related projects with PTF, Word Bank and ETF. You can visit their website for more information on how to order books from them.

6. CSS Bookshops Limited

For those looking for Christian books, motivational, educational and general books, CSS Bookshop focuses on these types of books. They have physical branched in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Abuja but you can order books online via CSS Bookshops website and pay with your card.

7. Laterna Books

8. Patabah Books

Patabah Bookstore was established over 30 years ago catering to book lovers in Lagos. They have a physical store in Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Mall but you can reach them online to purchase and get it delivered in 24 hours as on their bio on Instagram – @Patabahbooks


 1k Bookstand (Closed)

This is the only bookstore on this list that sells each book for #1000 or less.  It’s Nigeria’s first thrift bookstore where you’ll find used books at ridiculously cheap prices. You can also sell them books that you no longer want to keep or bookish crafts that you handmake.

Here, you’ll find gently used copies of popular book, ageless classics and African books, all at a thousand naira or less  You’ll also find really cute bookmarks here at about #300 – #400 if you fancy them.

With these platforms, all you have to do is place your book order with your preferred vendor and get it delivered to your address. You can easily connect with them via social media, Whatsapp or call their numbers. For the e-commerce platforms, just search for the book you want, and place your order. Jumia gives you the option to pay on delivery if that is what you prefer.
