Hamzat Omolara Halimot | …but Yearn for Rain | Poetry

0

Not only the transition of bright to dull in the sky
Or the pregnant clouds
But also the beautiful sight
Of white untainted drops from the cloud
Makes me love a rainy day.

Not only the inviting fragrance of the wet soil
Or the drumming beat of the stroke of rain
But also the beautiful sight
Of naked children playing with no worries under the rain.
Makes my heart long for a rainy day.

Not only the happiness that quips
In the sight of rain for the longing farmers
Or the longing of adults for a peaceful calm water for thirst
But also the serenity of a morning after a rainy night
Makes the longing in my spirit more for rain.

Not only the ease of the mother soil
Or the peaceful sleep on a rainy day or night
But also the euphoria of the elderly seeing children even the grands happily welcoming the drops.
Accompanied with great reminiscence of their own happy great childhood.
Makes me but yearn for rain….
