There’s been massive support towards Black writers these past few months with more literary magazines accepting submissions from Black women writers across the spectrum.

1. The Offing

Offing publishes work that challenges, experiments, provokes or work that pushes literary and artistic forms and conventions especially from Black and indigenous people and the LGBQA.

Payment $25 – $100 depending on department and work length.

Deadline: July 16, 2020

2. Midnight & Indigo

Midnight & Indigo is a new literary platform dedicated to publishing short fiction and narrative essays by Black women writers. Their next deadline is June 28 for their speculative fiction / horror issue and August 2nd for standard submissions.

Payment Between $50 – $125 per story.

Deadline: June 28 – August 2, 2020.

3. Scum Mag

Scum is interested in publishing feminist-friendly work of any variety under fiction, non-fiction or poetry.

Guidelines

-Send work attached as a word document.

-Include the type of submission in subject line.

Payment $60 AUD per piece.

Deadline: 1st – 7th of every month.

4. Words and Whispers

Words and Whispers seeks submissions on the theme: Black Lives Matter under poetry, prose & personal essays.

Guidelines

-Include your work in one PDF or .docx file. Subject line should read the theme ‘Black Lives Matter’.

-Submit a cover letter and short third person bio that will be used should your piece be accepted.

Deadline: Words & Whispers is open for submissions all year round.
