She could have been another beautiful face
One that was born of the black race
she was a beauty born into a world of freedom
But society and class make the thought of freedom a reckless abandon
she was born of class and good African heritage
Society’s expectations has shoved her backstage
Alas! when she walks by, there are smiles on faces
could this be because she’s not just another beautiful face?
She was born with a beautiful smile
But fate has made it only last for a while
she’s fought an unending battle thus far
To emerge victorious with battle scars
These scars she carries with as her badge of honour
Even when narrow minded people try to shove her in a corner
They say her beauty wouldn’t sell
She should crawl into a shell
They say she’s just another beautiful face
with a scarring peculiar to the black race.
