Immortal Memories by Tayo Oladipo

Immortal Memories

I will take this treasure, these memories;
the endless chatter on the raffia mat,
the sunset rendezvous
with the sun taking into the sea
the burden in our heart,
the long walks stretching into oblivion

the whispers and the tears,
the laughter, ringing like bells.

I will take in these memories
into the secured memory bank of my being,
far from war and gunshots,
out of the animen of this Neverland’s reach,
who even with their cow-horn and cutlasses
cannot carve out these memories from my bossom

I will lock them where rust cannot  corrupt them,
until I die and take them up
to the treasure houses of heaven.
